Johor Jewels fans, Every position has its own responsibilities, from scoring goals and delivering accurate passes to defending opponents and controlling different areas of the court.Netball is more than just shooting goals, it’s a game of teamwork, strategy, and quick decision-making. Every player is only allowed to enter specific areas of the court, making communication and positioning essential throughout the match.

Goal Shooter (GS)

The Goal Shooter (GS) is the team’s primary scorer and plays closest to the opponent’s goal. Their main objective is to convert passes into goals while remaining calm under defensive pressure.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Score goals from within the shooting circle.
  • Create space to receive passes.
  • Work closely with the Goal Attack (GA) to create scoring opportunities.
  • Maintain accuracy and composure when shooting.

Goal Attack (GA)

The Goal Attack (GA) has a dual role as both a scorer and a playmaker. In addition to shooting goals, the GA helps move the ball from the centre third into the attacking circle and works closely with teammates to build attacking plays.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Score goals from within the shooting circle.
  • Support the Goal Shooter in creating scoring opportunities.
  • Feed accurate passes into the shooting circle.
  • Link the midfield with the attacking end.
  • Create space and maintain possession during attacking plays.

Wing Attack (WA)

The Wing Attack (WA) is responsible for creating attacking opportunities by linking the centre third to the shooting circle. Although the WA cannot score goals, this position plays an important role in building attacking plays and maintaining possession.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Receive the centre pass.
  • Deliver accurate passes to the shooters.
  • Create space for attacking plays.
  • Maintain possession of the ball.

Centre (C)

The Centre (C) connects both the attack and defence while controlling the tempo of the game. This position covers the largest area of the court and supports teammates throughout every phase of play.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Take the centre pass.
  • Link the attack and defence.
  • Support teammates across the court.
  • Control the flow of the game.

Wing Defence (WD)

The Wing Defence (WD) focuses on disrupting the opponent’s attack by applying pressure and limiting passing options. Strong anticipation and quick movement are essential in this role.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Mark the opposing Wing Attack.
  • Block passing lanes.
  • Win interceptions.
  • Support the defensive unit.

Goal Defence (GD)

The Goal Defence (GD) protects the shooting circle by challenging the opposing Goal Attack and helping regain possession. This position also supports the team’s transition from defence to attack.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Mark the opposing Goal Attack.
  • The contest passes into the circle.
  • Win interceptions and rebounds.
  • Support the Goal Keeper.

Goal Keeper (GK)

The Goal Keeper (GK) is the team’s final defender and is responsible for protecting the goal circle. By applying defensive pressure and contesting shots, the GK helps prevent the opposition from scoring.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Mark the opposing Goal Shooter.
  • Contest every shot attempt.
  • Collect defensive rebounds.
  • Protect the shooting circle.
